Buyer’s Guide: Choosing The Right Walking Stick

Walking sticks are really important to help you build confidence to be mobile without the aid of someone else.  If you rely heavily on a walking stick, we completely understand how important it is to make sure that you choose the right one. It needs to be comfortable to use for a long period of time, it also needs to be safe and reliable for when you need your walking stick the most.

We regularly work closely with our customers online or in our showroom to find exactly what they are looking for within a walking stick. Because of this, we have put together a buyer’s guide to help you with choosing the right walking stick!

The Different Types of Walking Sticks

Whether you are recovering from an injury or living with a disability that is preventing your mobility and stability, walking sticks can greatly reduce the risk of falls. Using a walking stick can also boost your confidence to move around, whether this is in your home or outdoors!

If you have already done a little bit of browsing for a walking stick, you will have seen the large variety available. This can seem rather daunting, as you want to make sure that you have the best mobility aid to help your particular needs. There are so many different types of walking sticks; However, not every single one will be the right one for you.

The main types of walking sticks that you will find are:

  • Ergonomic Walking Stick
  • Swan Neck Walking Stick
  • Quadruped Base Walking Stick
  • Folding Walking Stick

What Is A Swan Neck Walking Stick?

A swan neck walking stick is designed with an angled joint between the handle and the stick. This enables the user’s weight to distribute centrally throughout the walking stick. The swan neck allows for greater stability if a lot of weight is being used to walk. Click here to see our Swan Necked Walking Stick.

What Is A Ergonomic Walking Stick?

Ergonomic Walking Sticks are perfect for improving comfort while in use. The Ergonomic handle is specifically shaped for the left or right hand. The benefit of this is that with a greater surface area, the user’s weight is more evenly distributed. To view our most popular Ergonomic Walking Stick, click here!

What Is A Quadruped Base Walking Stick?

A Quadruped base walking stick is designed to provide maximum stability with 4 feet (like a chair). This is best for outdoor use where surfaces may not be perfectly flat or steady. It allows the user to feel safe when taken out their comfort zone. . Click here to see our range of Quadruped Walking Sticks, including a swan neck design.

What Is A Folding Walking Stick?

Folding Walking Sticks are perfect for the user who does not rely on this type of mobility aid at all times. They allow you to fold the stick up to a convenient and compact size shape to fit in a basket or trolley bag. To view our most popular Folding Walking Stick, click here!

The Ultimate Walking Stick Accessory

You may have heard of Ferrules if you have previously used a walking stick. Ferrules are essentially rubber shoes for the feet of a walking stick. They create extra grip to support the weight of the user. We would strongly recommend checking the ferrules on a regular basis to ensure they haven’t become worn or damaged. • Ordered a folding shower seat with 2 grab bars in the morning and these were delivered to me in the afternoon of the same day - that is what I call service. However the following day a further 2 Grab Bars were delivered and the co said that they would collect these the same day - still waiting after 1 week and another call - not so good and still waiting. A point that the co should consider is that we are finding it difficult to get someone to fit the shower seat and they are unable to provide any guidance or help. would suggest that they collect names and telephone numbers of local tradesmen who are trusted to fit their mobility equipment and provide guidance on fitting

  • Fantastic service, I order a Bathmaster Deltis bath chair lift on the 18/08/2015 and using the standard delivery system it was delivered to my house the following day. The chair works very well, it comes packed in the manufactures original box, battery ready charged for instantaneous use and at a very competitive price. Very good performance all round.

  • I was looking for a buggy for adults and the one I purchased named Troy. was excellent, I can put it up & down in seconds. The wheels are superbly easy to turn with. My husband says it is very comfortable and the black leather with red piping is very smart. When folded up there is a padded grip in the middle of the frame, which is perfectly balanced to lift it in and out of cars etc. a wonderfully strong but light wheelchair.
